Pharrell Williams and adidas are expanding the VIRGINIA collection again, but the latest shoe takes a noticeably different route from the oversized presence of the Adistar Jellyfish.

The VIRGINIA Watermoc is lower, lighter in appearance and more directly connected to outdoor utility. Inspired by an adidas Adventure design from the early 2000s, it combines a slip-on shape with ventilation, quick-adjust lacing and a lugged outsole. The result sits somewhere between water footwear, trail equipment and an everyday lifestyle sneaker.

A quieter addition to the VIRGINIA universe

The Watermoc follows two very different VIRGINIA silhouettes: the sculptural Adistar Jellyfish and the more restrained Flat Earther. Instead of repeating either design, Pharrell and adidas went back into the brand's outdoor archive.

Its starting point is the early-2000s adidas Adventure Water Moc. The new version keeps the basic idea of footwear made for movement around changing environments, then reshapes it through the visual language Pharrell has been building around VIRGINIA—his creative pseudonym and cultural platform rooted in his home state.

That makes the Watermoc feel connected to the Jellyfish without looking like a smaller copy. Both designs draw from movement between land and water, but they express the idea differently. The Jellyfish makes it dramatic and exaggerated. The Watermoc makes it compact and functional.

Built around ventilation and quick adjustment

The upper uses a neoprene U-throat construction with breathable mesh ventilation. Reflective webbing adds visibility and structure, while a bungee speed-lacing system lets the wearer adjust the fit without traditional laces.

Underfoot, a durable rubber lug outsole gives the Watermoc a more rugged foundation than its streamlined upper initially suggests. adidas says the outsole is engineered for enhanced traction and positions the shoe around an outdoor-minded lifestyle.

One distinction matters: adidas does not make a specific waterproof-performance claim in its announcement. Despite the name and aquatic presentation, the most accurate description is a ventilated, outdoor-inspired lifestyle silhouette with water-moc heritage—not confirmed waterproof technical footwear.

Three colors, three personalities

The opening collection arrives in Blue, Yellow and Black. Blue creates the clearest connection to water and may be the most immediate expression of the concept. Yellow gives the unusual shape more energy, while Black reduces the visual noise and puts more attention on the construction.

All three release globally on September 5 through the adidas CONFIRMED app, adidas.com/Pharrell and selected retailers. Exact inventory, sizing and local launch procedures may vary by market.

The Shervarino take

The Watermoc does not have the instant visual impact of the Adistar Jellyfish. It is less sculptural, less imposing and probably less likely to stop someone mid-scroll. That may also be its advantage.

At $140, this is a more approachable entry into Pharrell's VIRGINIA footwear world. The archive connection gives it a reason to exist, and the combination of neoprene, ventilation, reflective webbing and a lugged outsole creates a coherent design rather than a collection of random outdoor references.

The strongest part is the contrast between the slim upper and the aggressive traction underneath it. The shoe appears simple from a distance, but its construction becomes more interesting up close—especially around the bungee system, material transitions and outsole profile.

The Jellyfish was built to command attention. The Watermoc looks built to move.

Together, the two models show that VIRGINIA is becoming a wider design world instead of a single successful silhouette. Every sneaker has a story. This one begins in the adidas outdoor archive and returns through Pharrell's view of Virginia.
