It Started With
a Pair of Jordans.
For me, sneakers have never just been something you wear. It goes back to 1989, when my parents bought me my first pair of Air Jordan 4s — the original Black/Cement Grey colorway that would become known as the “Bred.”
I still remember the box: how perfect it looked, how new it felt, and how different the whole experience was from anything I was used to growing up as a kid. Opening it was part of the moment. Then came the smell of a brand-new sneaker, the feel of the sole in my hands, the little stars molded into the front of the outsole, the mesh, the wings and all the small details that made the shoe feel special before I ever put it on.
I took care of those shoes like they were something important — because to me, they were. There was pride in wearing them, pride in keeping them clean, and a kind of fun and confidence that stayed with me long after that first pair.
That love grew hand in hand with basketball, then hip-hop, sneaker culture and everyday life. Over time, sneakers became bigger than performance footwear. They became part of music, style, identity and the way we tell our own stories. Today, the right pair can work on the court, with jeans, dressed up, dressed down or anywhere in between.
That feeling I had opening that first box never really went away. Shervarino is my way of sharing it.
And I’m still a purist at heart — give me Nike Air on the heel.
